Rolling in the Dough Since 1904

Along with amazing ingredients cheese from Grande Cheese Co. and fine meats from Boar’s Head, we also partner with Hearth-Baked Amoroso’s Bread & Rolls company. Their story, like the DiSilvestro’s story, started with family. In 1904, newly-arrived immigrants Vincenzo Amoroso, and sons Salvatore and Josep opened a bakery in Camden, New Jersey and set up shop. Outgrowing their space in just ten short years, the family moved across the river to Philadelphia where their bakery became a neighborhood legend. For years, including the period of the Great Depression, the bakery thrived on making home deliveries, both morning and night. Their route quickly expanded into their original starting place of New Jersey and then Delaware. Growth and expansion continued for the family as they expanded to grocery stores and the establishment of a national distribution supply chain. Still family owned and operated after more than 100 years, Amoroso’s has grown to over 400 associates. But the reasons for their success have never been forgotten. Uncompromising quality. Unrelenting service. And Uninhibited innovation.

Compromise Elsewhere: Quality Ingredients at Ynot with Boar’s Head

Along with the highest quality cheese from Grande, and locally grown fresh vegetables, we at Ynot also pride ourselves in the big quality standards of our meats that we use in every Ynot dish. To keep with these high standards, we have chosen to partner with Boar’s Head Meats. Not only because all of their products taste amazing and blend well with the Ynot menu, but also because of their shared sense of quality and tradition.

The Boar’s Head Story

Five generations ago, Boar’s Head began with the belief that consumers deserved a better quality ham. Over the years, their company has grown, but our standards for quality have never wavered. Frank Brunckhorst founded the Boar’s Head Brand in New York City in 1905. Dissatisfied with the quality of hams that were available to him, he set out to craft delicatessen products of uncompromising standards by using only the finest ingredients. Since then, the Boar’s Head standards of quality have never wavered. Their products are made of only the finest ingredients; whole muscle beef, pork and poultry, and spices sourced from around the globe.

Boar’s Head prides themselves on being master craftsmen in their industry, skilled artisans in meat and cheese preparation methods. They use time-honored recipes that call for hand-griming their meats, applying many of their spices by hand and more.

110 years later, Boar’s Head is still committed to providing the highest quality delicatessen products….nothing less.

It Starts with the Cheese

Every great creation starts with a recipe. And awesome recipes start with quality ingredients. It’s what guides us in our relentless pursuit of quality and excellence in everything we make, so you’re guaranteed the best in your pursuit. This is just one story about one ingredient that makes our Italian cuisine what people come back for. Quality cheese from Grande Cheese Co.

Grande’s story began in 1891, in the small Sicilian village of Montelepre, Italy, where founder Filippo Candela was then born. It was in this warm, agriculturally rich region where he learned the art of making fine Italian cheese.

In 1925, shortly after marrying his wife Provvidenza, Filippo moved from the economic instability of post-war Italy to America in search of better opportunities. Initially purchasing a small dairy farm and orchard, he moved to Wisconsin to pursue his passion for cheese making. Speaking only a few words of English, they met an Italian cheese buyer from the Old World. This meeting sowed the seeds of a new cheese company formed by Filippo and a handful of family and friends. They named it Grande – a fitting name as the Italian word for ‘greatness’ – and its authentic cheeses soon became favorites with Italian immigrant families across the United States.

In the early years, Grande crafted traditional, aged Italian eating and grating cheeses such as Provolone and Romano. As pizza grew in popularity, Grande began to produce its trademarked Mozzarella, which soon became recognized as the most exceptional of cheeses for pizza. Grande cheeses are now known and trusted nationally as “The finest Italian cheeses money can buy!”

It Starts with the Cows

Grande works with a select group of dedicated milk producers who share their passion for quality and a strong commitment to sustainability. Together, they work to improve milk production, ensure they’ve exceeding the nation’s highest standards of quality and protect the environment in various communities. Grande’s field services team and veterinarian regularly visit farms and meet with producers. They offer support and advice on proper cow handling, milking routines, stall maintenance, calf care, calving management, working with the milking equipment, as well as offering milk quality management training and support for farm employees. The Grande staff includes a full-time health and wellness veterinarian to help ensure overall herd health and milk quality.

Sustainable Farming Practices

Grande works with producers who share our commitment to caring for the environment. Many of these are multi-generational family operations that reinvest in sustainable solutions to ensure the health and success of their herds and lands for generations to come. From implementing renewable technology such as methane digesters (which power about 1/3 of our milk supply) to reducing soil erosion and their carbon footprint; it’s all about looking after our natural resources for future generations.

So what does this all mean for you and your family? It means you can rest assured knowing that the reason all of the  Ynot Italian dishes taste so amazing, is because all of our meals are made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Dining in the Dark Helps the Community Open Their Eyes to Blindness

Ynot Italian is proud to support the 6th Annual Hampton Roads VisionWalk to help in the fight against blindness. To help support and educate the community, we are participating in an event called Dining in the Dark. On Thursday, April 27th, all Ynot locations will be participating in this event which gives our guests a first-hand glimpse into the lives of those who are blind or vision impaired by taking them on an unforgettable journey. Diners will be given simulation masks of either macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa and are encouraged to order from the menu and or eat their meals while wearing these masks.

VisionWalk is a signature fundraising event of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Over 10 Million Americans are affected by blinding retinal diseases including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and Usher syndrome. The Foundation Fighting Blindness is working to find treatments and cures for these devastating diseases. By funding leading-edge research in areas such as genetics, gene therapy, transplantation, artificial retinal implants and pharmaceutical and nutritional therapies. The Foundation Fighting Blindness is making a difference today to make the world a brighter place for those suffering from retinal degenerative diseases.

Family, children, and community service have always been a priority of the Ynot franchise and continue to be an important pillar looking to the future. It is because of the importance of community that Ynot will be donating 10% of all meals served to The Hampton Roads VisionWalk.

Celebrate National Beer Day with Proper Pairings

National Beer Day is observed annually on April 7th.  Celebrate with a pint of pale ale, lager, stout, wheat beer, or pale ale.

One of the world’s oldest prepared beverages, beer possibly dates back to 9500 BC when cereal was first farmed.  It is recorded in the written history of ancient Iraq and ancient Egypt.

Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage.  Following water and tea, it is the third most popular drink overall.

So what better way to celebrate our 3rd most favorite beverage, then with our favorite food: Pizza! Here are some pairings from Draft Magazine to help you through this national holiday:

Cheese & ESB
We’re drawn to the way a malt-forward beer can create richness with a simple cheese slice. An ESB’s nuttiness is a natural fit with the slice’s salt while the beer’s soft mouthfeel and sweet caramel push the gooey factor with the cheese. Just enough bitterness washes away the grease, leaving some soft cheese flavor on the tongue.

Pepperoni & black IPA
Pepperoni’s got kick, and alongside a black IPA’s spicy hops and bitter roast, the peppery flavor gets sharper and more defined. The beer’s dark roast also draws out the sausage smokiness, while hop and malt bitterness (the hallmark of this beer style) scrub away grease and prep the palate for another big bite.

Barbecue & rauchbier
Where there’s barbecue, there’s smoke: In this “but-of-course!” duet, the beer’s campfire wisps bring some authentic grilled flavor to the supersweet, caramelized BBQ sauce, giving even low-budget slices gourmet complexity. Even still, a simple, clean lager finish zips through the mouth and tidies up the palate.

Hawaiian & blonde ale
A classic American blonde ale streams quietly beneath this island-inspired slice, creating fullness in the mouth. The beer’s simple malt sweetness connects with the same sweetness in the ham and pine-apple, but tones down the fruit’s acidity. Hop bitterness anchors the pair, and washes it away like a wave receding into the ocean.

Meat lovers & Scotch ale
A forceful, caramel-forward Scotch ale stands up to the impact of multiple meats in one bite: It attracts the sweeter flavors in meat, while toppings like Italian sausage and pepperoni bring spicy and herbal notes that integrate perfectly into the beer’s sturdy malt profile. A wisp of smoke underscores the bite, while smooth alcohol helps to dry out the tongue.

Veggie & IPA
Today’s IPAs range from resinous pine to juicy pineapple; with a garden-inspired pizza, find one with hops that lean green (think grassy, oniony and catty). Onions and peppers gain crisp definition alongside vegetal hops, while the beer’s bitterness deftly bristles away the oil and cheese, leaving only fresh—and deceptively healthy—veggie flavors behind.

So, why not head into any one of our seven locations around Hampton Roads and enjoy a slice with ice cold beer! We have an expanded selection of domestic, import, and locally-brewed craft beers.
